Custom Skin Files / Custom Buttons

This section of the manual details the process of creating custom buttons (AKA "skinning" buttons) and, for more advanced users, creating custom skin files.    Basic button skinning is quick and simple and only involves creating an image file; it doesn't require any specialized software like Adobe Flash. 

Creating skin file packages allows for a slightly higher level of customization.  Custom fonts can be embedded, button skins can include transitions between states, and other asset classes such as icons and custom skin classes can be made available.  Skin file packages are special centralized SWF packages that hold the embedded assets.    Currently, Adobe Flash CS3, CS4, CS5 or higher must be used to create these skin files; the process is detailed in a subtopic:

This section of the manual details the creation of custom skin files.    These are special centralized SWF packages which contain customized buttons and, for advanced users, other assets such as icons and custom skins.    There are two different ways to create customized skin files; each is detailed in a subtopic:

  • Using Adobe Flash CS3 or Flash CS4 (or higher)
  • COMING SOON - Using the Skin Baker utility.    This tool (which utilizes the Flex SDK) takes JPEG, GIF, PNG, or SWF files and bakes them into a skin package.
